Description

In order to get better at anything in life; we need to practice. Students need time set aside each day for the them to dive into a good book. Reading independently is crucial for students to grow as readers. The connection from reading to writing is also incredibly important.

Establishing a reading journal should be a must inside all classrooms. If students are given time to read everyday; they also need time to write about their thoughts on that particular book. This product is based around that idea. In this document you will find different prompts for different types of books. Students can choose a topic that is based on literature (fiction), informational (non-fiction), and chapter books. In my classroom,

I have students use a different prompt each day until they use up a section. Then, they can start the process over again. These are meant to be brief writing activities that should not surpass 20 minutes. Ideally, spend 10-15 minutes on answering a prompt after students have reading for 30 minutes. Lastly, each student is given their own copy for reference.
