I have always introduced the process of asking and answering questions by showing my class the "wh" brothers. Be sure to introduce them as two young boys (brothers) who are very curious and are always asking questions like: who, when, when, where, and why. Eventually, the kids begin to use this strategy of asking the "WH" brother questions to themselves while they read a book.
I also made the stories easy enough to read so that the kids can actually point to, underline, or circle the answer in the story. This teaches kids NOT to guess since the answer will be in the story.
Included in this packet is the following:
-"WH" Brothers Anchor Chart
-4 monthly themed stories with “WH” questions (who/what/when/where/why) FOR EACH OF THE 12 MONTHS OF THE YEAR
-Total of 48 comprehension stories each with 5 “wh” questions
-Each story has a picture to match the story, too.
A few good uses for this packet would be: small guided group work, homework, reading centers, classwork, and morning work. I have used this in the past for my guided reading groups, as I can differentiate within my groups/kids.
