What educators are saying

Working on life skills and reading/recognizing community signs and emergency signs. This is an amazing bundle with real life pictures!
I love that these stories are not too long but engaging for students. They provide students with great information about safety. They are great for monitoring students reading goals too.

Description

Reading Comprehension LARGE Task Cards COMMUNITY & SAFETY SIGNS for Special Education/Autism

This set includes 36 LARGE real-life scenario task cards, safety sign flashcards with simple definitions, and data sheets to record progress towards IEP goal mastery. Many of the task cards contain

substantial text, always making use of sight words and common nouns. Some recommendations on how to use this activity are:

* FOR NON-READERS: Use as one-on-one instruction by reading each "page" aloud. Even non-readers will be able to identify the symbols and pictures as you read to them. Introduce the symbols with the flashcards included.

* FOR READERS: Have student read each card aloud or silently to

demonstrate comprehension. Once completed, you can check the cards for accuracy. This makes a wonderful independent work task!

* FOR LANGUAGE DEVELOPMENT: Read aloud or have student read text. Ask "wh" questions related to each scenario. Have students identify symbols and ask where they may have seen them before.

* FOR WRITING: Use the task card scenarios as extended writing prompts.
