Reading 5E Lesson Plan BUNDLE

This is a Reading lesson plan bundle that includes Decoding, Vocabulary, Comprehension, and Fluency. The lesson plan follows the 5E Lesson Plan model. The 5 Es are Engagement, Exploration, Explanation, Elaboration, and Evaluation. The lesson plan applies to Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) and the Common Core Standards. The lesson is designed for the average student, however it includes differentiated lesson plan ideas. The lesson plan is designed for 5th grade however it can be adjusted to any grade level. The activities are responsive and able to be adapted to different types of reading.

The reading DECODING objectives include: Students will be able to understand new vocabulary in reading and writing; determine the meaning of grade-level academic English words derived from Latin, Greek or other linguistic roots; determine the meaning of grade-level academic English words derived from Latin, Greek or other linguistic affixes.

The reading FLUENCY objectives include: Students will be able to read grade-level text with fluency and comprehension; read aloud grade-level stories with fluency; use appropriate rate, accuracy, expression, and phrasing while reading and comprehending text.

The reading VOCABULARY objectives include: Students will be able to understand new vocabulary; use new vocabulary when reading and writing; use a dictionary, a glossary, or a thesaurus to determine the meanings, syllabication, pronunciation, alternate word choices and parts of speech of words; spell words with more advanced orthographic patterns and rules; spell words with Greek and Latin Roots, and Latin derived suffixes; use spelling patterns and rules and print and electronic resources to determine and check correct spelling.

The reading COMPREHENSION objectives include: Students will be able to analyze, make inferences, and draw conclusions about expository text; provide evidence from text to support their understanding; determine the facts in text and verify them through established methods.
