Description

This original reader’s theater set features 4 popular folk tales pulled from America’s greatest folklore! (Davy Crockett, Mike Fink, John Henry, Molly Pitcher) Each play is written on a different reading level and helps meet the Language Arts common core standards in the areas of traditional literature, elements of a drama, and fluency & expression!

ABOUT THIS PRODUCT

Each play is approximately 2 pages long, contains 4-6 character parts, and introduces students to the traditional folk tale characters. Since each play is based on 4 traditional folktales, students will be able to compare and contrast as they perform them; helping to meet the CCSS: RL.4.9. Compare and contrast the treatment of similar themes and topics (e.g., opposition of good and evil) and patterns of events (e.g., the quest) in stories, myths, and traditional literature from different cultures.

WHAT MAKES THIS RESOURCE UNIQUE?

Written on 3 separate reading levels to ensure differentiation, each script contains 5-6 parts, making it a perfect activity for centers or leveled guided reading groups! Modified versions provide support in basic fluency skills, regular versions focus on expression development, and enriched versions challenge students with tier 2 vocabulary and figurative language components.

WHAT IS INCLUDED?

You will receive a "ready to print" PDF of the following scripts!

John Henry and the Big Hammer (modified level)

Davy Crockett: The Frontiersman (on grade level)

Mike Fink: The Riverboat Legend (on grade level)

Molly Pitcher: A Revolutionary Heroine (enriched level)
