Using our Reading Recovery background and 20+ years of primary level teaching experience, we have created our interventions to reach the needs of our little learners in a time efficient way. All interventions are designed to be 5-10 minutes in length and are aligned with the Common Core standards. The tasks are narrowed and focused on specific skills to maximize learning.
These interventions are ideal for any adult support or volunteer you may have within your classroom. The interventions are clear, contain teacher talk and directives, and also include suggestions to tailor instruction in case there is lack of progress.
We’ve used our interventions in several ways. Interventions can be implemented prior to or alongside your reading instruction (guided reading groups, LLI, Title, strategy-based groups, etc.). In the past we began our year by focusing on the interventions with small groups as the interventions support the pre-reading foundational skills needed before launching our full-blown reading groups. We’ve also used this alongside our reading groups either by providing students the added support of the intervention during group or had adult support/volunteers working with students who need intervention during that time.
