Description

This digital download (.docx) contains 3 worksheets with discussion questions (both pre- and post- listening) and questions to answer while listening for 3 radiolab podcasts- Lost and Found, 9-Volt Nirvana, and Damn it, Basal Ganglia!. These three podcasts are high interest for a wide range of ages, and allow students to use their own devices to complete the assignments. These are great for both in-class and out-of-class use, as well as for small and whole class grouping. An answer key is provided, and some suggestions for classroom use and further activities are provided. Great for developing listening skills. Also makes a great stand alone lesson for a substitute teacher to deliver.

Some of my other products:

Based upon the critically-acclaimed Chernobyl miniseries rom HBO, this video guide accompanies episode 1. The film is a painstakingly accurate account of the worst nuclear accident in human history. This can be used in physics, world history. environmental science, or biology . It includes a summary of the characters, video guide questions with an answer key, as well as pre- and post- viewing discussion questions.  https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Chernobyl-Miniseries-Episode-1-Worksheet-with-Discussion-Questions-and-Answers-4658135

Three Identical Strangers is a facinating case study of three identical triplets separated at birth only to be accidentally reunited at the age of 19. This download includes a film guide "interrrupted" with discussion questions to be used in small group or whole class conversations. A great classroom tool for delving into the "nature vesus nurture" debate. https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Three-Identical-Strangers-Interrupted-Film-Guide-and-Worksheet-with-Answers-4338684

This podcast activity uses the popular Radiolab podcast to introduce the topic of the origin of the HIV virus. This question and answer worksheet has students follow along with the podcast (link provided), answering questions as they go.https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Origin-of-HIVAIDS-Radiolab-Podcast-Printable-Worksheet-with-answers-4413569

This "interrupted" podcast activity uses the popular Radiolab podcast to introduce the important but complex topic of the CRISPR gene editing technique. Students follow along with the podcast, answering questions as they go, but "interrupts" the podcast to have students think more deeply about the ethics and implications of this powerful new technology. https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Radiolab-CRISPR-Interrupted-Podcast-printable-worksheet-4329465

Initiate and participate effectively in a range of collaborative discussions (one-on-one, in groups, and teacher-led) with diverse partners on grades 9–10 topics, texts, and issues, building on others’ ideas and expressing their own clearly and persuasively.
Come to discussions prepared, having read and researched material under study; explicitly draw on that preparation by referring to evidence from texts and other research on the topic or issue to stimulate a thoughtful, well-reasoned exchange of ideas.
Work with peers to set rules for collegial discussions and decision-making (e.g., informal consensus, taking votes on key issues, presentation of alternate views), clear goals and deadlines, and individual roles as needed.
Propel conversations by posing and responding to questions that relate the current discussion to broader themes or larger ideas; actively incorporate others into the discussion; and clarify, verify, or challenge ideas and conclusions.
Respond thoughtfully to diverse perspectives, summarize points of agreement and disagreement, and, when warranted, qualify or justify their own views and understanding and make new connections in light of the evidence and reasoning presented.
