What educators are saying

My students loved this project, but some kids had a hard time with the folds and it looked a little sloppy. Next time I would use thinner paper. They came out really great though!
My students loved doing this art project after learning about fractions in maths! We practised first with white paper before using coloured paper. I was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to make while still providing them with the challenge of creating their own design. Fantastic resource!

Description

Ready to blow away everyone in your school community with a gorgeous math-integrated art lesson?

Included in this package is a teacher's project sheet, a paper folding guide sheet, a fully animated PowerPoint, AND an instructional video!

The PowerPoint contains all the pertinent information you need for this project.. so be sure to review it BEFORE teaching (you’ll want to go through it in presentation mode yourself).

The PowerPoint begins by defining symmetry as a type of formal balance, then clarifies the difference between linear and radial symmetry. Next it goes into how you can divide an image plane up into fractions to create radial designs (the more it is divided, the easier it is to create a more complex designs). Then it goes into the folds, a couple math questions examples, and then the project.
