Description
This is a complete PowerPoint lesson with multimedia resources and two student worksheets. This lesson covers the main purposes of apostrophes and gives specific examples. Topics include:
- Possession / possessive nouns
- Singular and plural nouns
- Irregular plural nouns
- Contractions
- It's (contraction) versus its (possessive)
- Possessive pronouns (ours, yours, its, theirs, his, hers, whose)
- Common mistakes & exceptions (verbs, single letter plurals)
The PowerPoint lesson includes brief student tasks and checks for understanding such as multiple choice questions, rewriting sentences, and a Think-Pair-Share discussion question.
The worksheet includes a page for students to write three sentences using apostrophes, and two pages with sentences that need to be corrected by inserting apostrophes where needed based on context.
