Description

This Pumpkin Math, Fall/ Halloween Math Center Activities, allows students to enjoy the festivities, yet work on important math skills. You will need a small to medium sized pumpkin for each small group. I usually have parent volunteers bring in pumpkins and help out. Other materials include a scale, a knife to cut the pumpkins, and a few tape measures. Don’t forget to use paper or plastic to line the tables for easy cleanup. Students will weigh and measure their pumpkins, count seeds, determine equivalent fractions and find the difference between their estimations and the true measurements. Students will practice multiplication and division problem solving through Fall/ Halloween word problems. My students use the CUBED strategy, to help solve word problems, which I have included. It takes me about an hour and a half to complete this entire activity with my fourth grade class. This activity would work with any upper elementary school grade (3rd, 4th and 5th) Have fun and enjoy!
