Psychology: Sensation and Perception- 8 day bundle
This 8 day bundle includes highly interactive lessons covering various topics related to sensation and perception.
Day 1: Intro to sensation and perception: This is a fantastic lesson that will allow students to start the unit on sensation and perception in an interactive way. In this lesson students will define terms such as: sensation, perception, absolute threshold, difference threshold, and sensory adaptation. Students will also understand the difference between sensation and perception, and practice their understanding of concepts like signal detection theory in a create way!
Day 2: The Stroop effect and selective attention: First, students will learn about the Stroop effect and the theories behind it, then they will participate in 4 other experiments around the Stroop effect. After this, students will learn about selective attention, subliminal messages and subliminal messaging in advertising.
Day 3: Students will learn about the parts of the eye, eye movements, theories on vision, the nature of light and color, and color blindness. Students will also take part in several short experiments that help them understand the concepts taught in the lesson.
Day 4 and 5: The psychology of our senses: hearing, taste, smell and touch- 2 day lesson: Students will cover topics around hearing, taste, smell and touch and how they are interpreted on an individual basis.
Day 6: Gestalt Psychology: This is a fantastic lesson that will allow students to learn about Gestalt psychology and the principles behind the theory. Topics in the lesson include: depth perception, the visual cliff experiment, binocular depth cues, monocular depth cues, perceptual set, and schemas. Students will also participate in several fun (and quick) experiments around perception!
Day 7: Fun experiments around sensory and perception: This is a fantastic lesson that will allow students to take part in two experiments around sensory and perception. The first test will test the senses with the eyes and the ability to see and focus on a hidden 3D object. The second hands on experiment will test their perception of a popular cereal and its perceived flavor. There are also whole-class debrief questions for both experiments!
Day 8: The psychology behind illusions: Students will learn about the Muller-Lyer illusion, the Ames room illusion, the Gestalt Closure illusion and different light illusions. After learning about these four illusions, students will then research online other illusions. There will also be a check for understanding at the end of the lesson to assess student understanding about what they learned.
