    2. Lincoln-Douglas Debate Outline

This debate outline features the Lincoln-Douglas Format and includes teacher handouts, scripts, and rubrics to facilitate a classroom debate. Also included are student handouts and graphic organizers to guide students through the debate process.

The Lincoln-Douglas Format is an easy-to-follow style of debate that demonstrates competing values. This format is widely used in competitive debate tournaments, including those held by the National Speech and Debate Association (NSDA) and the National Educational Debate Association.

    3. Community Interview Project - How to Conduct an Interview Assignment

This community interview project is perfect for practicing interviewing skills and teaching students how to conduct an interview! This resource includes a slideshow lesson, interview graphic organizers, and an editable rubric.  These materials are suitable for online learning with digital worksheets for Google Classroom®.

This project is based on Brandon Stanton’s famous photography project, “Humans of New York.”  Students will learn about the interview process and how to conduct an interview within your school community.  They will also write a narrative summary to capture the story of the person that they interview.

    4. Mock Trial Assignment for Any Story or Novel

Mock trials don’t need to be daunting! Your students will absolutely love this project-based learning assignment. It includes a mock trial script, 30+ mock trial roles, an objection cheat sheet, an editable mock trial rubric, and more. Suitable for online learning with digital worksheets for Google Classroom®!

Guide students to a deeper understanding of the overarching themes and underlying message within any short story or novel. This resource includes everything you need to lead a successful and engaging mock trial with your students! Over 30 students can participate in this mock trial activity, and each student will have a role that will prompt them to critically examine the actions of any literary character.

    5. Plan a Vacation Project

Embark on an adventure with this project-based learning assignment! Geared towards developing a variety of literacy skills, this vacation planning project is perfect for enhancing essential literacy in a dynamic way. Includes digital worksheets for Google Classroom®!

This project is designed to take students on a trip anywhere in the world while evaluating writing using four writing tasks: narrative text, infographic, news report, and information text. Students will research about culture, geography, politics, and current events to demonstrate their understanding of various essential writing skills.

    6. Research Paper Extension Project - Real-World Resource Assignment

This authentic assessment has students create a “real-world resource” as an extension of their research paper! Students can publish an infographic, pamphlet, brochure, documentary, or any other medium of their choice. This project is a great end of the year activity for English Language Arts!

Authentic assessments are designed to measure a student's ability to apply their knowledge and skills in real-world, meaningful contexts. They often require students to demonstrate their understanding by completing tasks or projects that are similar to what they might encounter in their future careers or in practical situations.

In the case of this Real-World Resource assignment, students are taking academic research and applying it to create practical, real-world documents. This project is designed to be used as an extension assignment for a research essay that students have already completed.
