What educators are saying

This resource was incredibly thoughtful. Working through a novel/text based Holocaust with students who have never learned about it is such a challenge. This resource balanced the ELA content with the historical background and connections needed.
Your resource was so well thought out and the details you put in did not go unnoticed. I like that I was able to choose what I felt was appropriate for my students. I like that there were multiple questions to choose from after each chapter.

Description

“We started reading the book and got to Chapter 9 before this resource became available. I pulled up the slide show as we read Ch. 9 and my students became much more engaged and started asking more in-depth questions. It was fantastic!” Catherine P., Texas

We call this 210-slide Novel Study a “Visual Text Support” because it brings the story to life through pictures, drawings, maps, captions, short explanations, and literary pointers. Your students will deepen their appreciation of Prisoner B-3087 with our curated historical, cultural and literary guide that follows the story page by page.

Includes chapter discussion/study questions with answer key and two printable maps for students to identify key locations. For ease of use, a linked Table of Contents takes you right to the chapter you need.

How did we show Yanek’s world and the disturbing reality of the Holocaust? We combed through thousands of photos to find those that most accurately represented the story. There are a few photos that show the horror of dead bodies and/or starving prisoners. In those cases, we’ve included two slides. The first slide of the pair has the disturbing content covered with a shaded box. The next slide is the same photo with the shaded box removed. Teachers, it is your choice whether to show the second slide.

Use this Novel Study/ Visual Text Support as a flexible teaching tool to scaffold the text for all students. You may want to show each chapter’s slides as a preview to orient students to the content. Or read the chapter first and then use the slides to revisit and enhance the reading. The following day use the study questions to review the previous chapter before moving on. The resource fits a variety of needs.
