Description

This Diversity and Race preschool and pre-k mini-unit contains 5 lessons. They are written to invite preschoolers to notice what is similar and what is different about people, celebrate their uniqueness, and stand up to racism in a safe, age-appropriate way.

The lessons build on each other to end in a celebratory art gallery of self-portraits.

Great for sparking conversations with your young learners and their families. Research shows that children are never "too young" to begin talking about race,
and these lessons introduce it to children and their families in a positive and supportive way.

Say goodbye to writing your own preschool curriculum, and incorporate some great social emotional learning into the year.

This preschool mini unit includes:

  • 5 lesson plans. The cumulative lesson plans introduce: what makes us similar, what makes us different, addressing racism in a developmentally appropriate way, and celebrating diversity.
  • A teacher's note guiding you through how to discuss sensitive topics with young learners
  • A caregiver's note to send home with articles for caregivers to read
  • A recommended book list for you to include for your preschool lessons, reading center or social studies learning.
  • Vocabulary word cards focused on the lessons
  • Fine motor building line tracing paper
  • Fine motor building scissor skills practice pages
  • 12 unique coloring pages that represent ethnically diverse children
  • Play dough mats that practice number recognition and fine motor skills
  • Upper to lowercase matching cards
  • Pattern practice file folder activity
  • A number hide and seek circle time game
  • Fun writing pages for your writing center

Use this unit as:

  • social emotional education
  • reinforcing that diversity is a thing to be celebrated
  • teaching same and different in a modern way
  • to encourage positive self-esteem

I hope you and your students love this Diversity + Race mini unit! It is centered on self esteem, diversity and social emotional learning.
