In part 1, students will go on a digital scavenger hunt using provided links to learn about figurative language and to search for poems containing figurative language (simile, metaphor, hyperbole, alliteration, onomatopoeia, and personification). Students will complete the Scavenger Hunt poetic device worksheet, and then can add poems to their fillable Poetry Project booklet (see link here).
For part 2, students will be introduced to different poetry formats through a series of slides, and then write their own poems. See student slides: My Practically Painless Poetry Project here for digital handouts for this project.
Sample project pages, teacher directions, student directions, links, and many poem styles and examples are included in the presentation slides.
