What educators are saying

My Kindergarten students love this activity and it has been a great starting point for them to create their own ideas using popsicle sticks and wooden blocks.
My kids loved this activity. I put it out as a morning activity station and they were so engaged! It also encouraged them to think of their own building ideas too. Thank you

Description

There are 15 construction cards included in this set and children will love the challenge of building the various items including towers, sea-saw, helicopter, bicycle, truck and various shapes. Many of these challenge cards require children to investigate BALANCE.

These cards are to be used alongside standard colored wooden blocks and popsicle sticks as shown in the pictures. This would make an ideal independent activity station or Science center for a Pre-School, Kindergarten or Prep class. There are varying levels of difficulty which students can select from. Alternatively, they could work alongside an adult to work on a more challenging building task. This is an excellent task to develop:

  • Fine-motor skills
  • Problem solving and reasoning skills
  • Hand-eye co-ordination
  • Language development
  • Mathematical understanding – geometry, counting, size, space, classifying etc.
  • Science – exploring BALANCE
  • STEM (science, technology, engineering, and maths)

Standards

to see state-specific standards (only available in the US).
When counting objects, say the number names in the standard order, pairing each object with one and only one number name and each number name with one and only one object.
Understand that the last number name said tells the number of objects counted. The number of objects is the same regardless of their arrangement or the order in which they were counted.
Describe measurable attributes of objects, such as length or weight. Describe several measurable attributes of a single object.
Directly compare two objects with a measurable attribute in common, to see which object has “more of”/“less of” the attribute, and describe the difference. For example, directly compare the heights of two children and describe one child as taller/shorter.
Classify objects into given categories; count the numbers of objects in each category and sort the categories by count.
