What educators are saying

This is a great resource for teaching how to write different types of poetry. There are so many options to choose from when deciding what kinds of poems your class should write. This was very scaffolded and helped students who struggle to come up with poem ideas a lot! :)
This was a great writing resource during our poetry unit. I especially like how there were examples of each poem for the students to see.

NOTE: This resource uses American English and is not editable.

Pattern poems are a great way to provide structure but still allow for plenty of creativity. While learning these patterns, your students will also be practicing syllables, parts of speech, and figurative language.

Perfect for National Poetry Month or use all year long - at a poetry center, as homework, with a sub, or anytime you need an open-ended, creative activity. Another idea is to use the patterns to write about a science or social studies content area, or perhaps about a book students are reading. Also great for holidays like Halloween, Christmas, Valentine's Day, and Mother's Day.
