Poetry Task Cards Dust of Snow by Robert Frost Poetry Analysis Mini Unit

Help students learn to analyze Robert Frost’s poem, “Dust of Snow” with this fun mini unit and task card set. This poem is on the 4th & 5th grade CCSS ELA Text Exemplar list. Students will be interpreting and analyzing poetry and responding to prompts on 12 task cards, citing evidence from the text in their foldable booklet that prints using only 3 sheets of paper. The poetry task cards make a great literature center activity or whole class poetry lesson.

For teachers, I’ve included a brief summary of the poem, teacher tips and notes, vocabulary list, and suggested web links to the poems online plus video or audio links so students can hear the rhythm of the poetry. Also included are “I Can” statements for Common Core 4th & 5th grade ELA ready to print and hang up on your bulletin board. In addition to the task cards, each poem has a one-page “Meet the Author” page and Acrostic Poem worksheets. These make a great extension or center activity for differentiation.

Structure For Use - Choose the Duration and Speed That Works Best for YOU:

• Teach one poet and poem each month of the year.
• Read the poem and focus on one poetry analysis question a day
• Set up a center or rotation with 3-4 tables with a task card on each table. Have students rotate to tables and discuss the question.
• Teach a 1-2 week intensive unit surrounding the poet and poem. Use the poem each day for 12 days.
• Teach the poet and poem in a week
