CONTENTS OF EACH OF THE 12 LESSONS:

    Notes On The Poem:
This page is designed to give some context to the poem and contains information about the poet, the time of writing, structural elements etc. This page could be given to students, although it could also just be used as background information for the teacher.

    Lesson Ideas:
Although there is no step-by-step lesson plan contained, this teacher’s page gives ideas for pre-reading, reading and post-reading activities and suggestions for how to use the worksheets included.

    Plain Version Of The Poem:
There is a simple version of the poem without annotation, clipart or distractions. This is included so that you can use it to project on the board, on an overhead page or give to students for their own initial annotation.

    Annotated Guided Reading Worksheet:
Included is a page containing the poem with guided reading questions. These questions are intended to draw out comprehension of the poem and guide students’ analysis. These questions could be completed orally in pairs or groups, or could be set as a written task.
    + ANSWER KEY INCLUDED

Other Worksheets: There are various other worksheets included for other activities suggested in the lesson ideas.

    IDEAS FOR USE

    ***SUBSTITUTE LESSONS***
As these lessons can easily stand alone, and contain all necessary instructions for use, they work extremely well as substitute plans!

    ***PART OF A POETRY UNIT***
Once you have taught elements of poetry, figurative language, tone etc., these lessons could be used to assess students' knowledge and understanding.

    ***EXTENSION WORK***
The annotated worksheets contained make for excellent (and challenging) extension tasks for early-finishers in any ELA class.
