What educators are saying

Learning poetry can be super hard, especially for 4th graders. This is a great resource that helps them better understand the nuances between each form of poetry.
Good activities for poetry with nice vocabulary to help students write poetry. I like that the analysis page was generic and would work with various poems.

Description

Poetry analysis is made easier with this versatile poetry booklet. It can be used with any poem(s), so it is extremely flexible. If you want your students to analyze more than one poem in a given time, you can include multiple copies in the booklet.

What's included?

  • booklet covers with list of learning targets
  • reference pages (important vocabulary, types of poems, types of poetry, figurative language)
  • grading rubric
  • analysis pages to be used with any poem(s) provided by the teacher
  • **Please note that this product DOES NOT INCLUDE POEMS.

What skills are covered on the analysis page?

  • theme
  • poetic elements (lines, stanzas, type of poem)
  • figurative language
  • author's purpose
  • POV
  • There is a space for students to illustrate the poem.

How do I build the booklet?

  • The booklet is designed so that students will have a blank page next to an analysis page (see preview). The amount of copies that you make of these pages depends on the amount of poems you want your students to analyze.
  • I highly recommend including reference pages in the booklet to help guide your students.
  • If you want to help yourself stay organized, include the grading rubric in the booklet as well.
  • Each page is designed as a full sheet, so you will just make front-and-back copies and staple.

**This product does not include poems. You will need to supply copies of poems to use in this booklet. Students will glue the poems into the blank pages of the booklet. I recommend making a variety of copies so that your students have many options to choose from.
