Description
Plato's "Allegory of the Cave" is a great piece of literature to introduce students to Ancient Greek philosophy, and it has the added bonus of promoting education in a thought-provoking way.
This Common Core aligned activity includes a condensed version of "The Allegory of the Cave," which matches a memorable eight minute cartoon video that can be accessed on YouTube (web address provided in the worksheet). Additionally, there is a Common Core-styled activity sheet that provides a variety of scaffolded questions. The questions are not arranged in higher order questioning, rather it is arranged to follow the document. Lastly, the teacher's materials include a completed "Literature Text Complexity Qualitative Analysis Rubric," a personally annotated copy of the text, and a personally completed Common Core activity worksheet.
The reading and the worksheet are in Word format so you may make any changes that you see fit.
