    Description

Differentiated Place Value Math Activities, PROFESSOR PLACE VALUE - MATH ACTIVITIES WITH A SCIENCE LABORATORY THEME

Are you looking for a fun and engaging way to practice 2.NBT Place Value Standards?

STUDENTS LOVE SCIENCE... AND THEY LOVE SECRETS....Guide them become a PROFESSOR OF PLACE VALUE! :)

Teach Students the Secret Formula to Math... HTO... and they will never forget!

(Not to be confused with H20 which most kiddos already know is the formula for water… and if they don’t know… BONUS TEACHING!)

These science laboratory themed math activities gives the students the pride of accomplishment while learning with science tools...What could be more fun than using beakers and test-tubes to make a math experiment work!

    Suggested Use:

Students rotate Lab Stations to practice using their 2.NBT Place Value Skills. Each student has a Place Value Station Tracker to keep track of the stations they have visited. Your kiddos will have fun shading in their beakers and tracking their progress as they practice place value skills. All stations are color coded for students to work on their specific skill and celebrate their accomplishment by self checking and filling in their tracker. Included are test tube and beaker manipulatives to differentiate the stations for those kiddos that require more support. Once kiddos have completed all of the place value laboratory stations they are awarded an official Place Value Professor Certificate that proves they understand how to use the "Secret Formula" (HTO)

Sometimes our kiddos look at numbers and need support to understand that those numbers represent a value that can be written or shown different ways. These fun activities give students the opportunity to visually practice moving numbers around in place value and still represent the original value. Students use the beaker and test tube manipulative pieces to pull apart and put together number values using their Secret Formula Mat. Students that need additional support can use these tools to give them a visual while they complete the worksheet. Once a student finishes the station worksheet, they can look in the corresponding "Answer Key Book" (Teacher directions included) to check their answers and go back to rework if necessary.

Understand that the three digits of a three-digit number represent amounts of hundreds, tens, and ones; e.g., 706 equals 7 hundreds, 0 tens, and 6 ones. Understand the following as special cases:
100 can be thought of as a bundle of ten tens - called a “hundred.”
The numbers 100, 200, 300, 400, 500, 600, 700, 800, 900 refer to one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, or nine hundreds (and 0 tens and 0 ones).
Read and write numbers to 1000 using base-ten numerals, number names, and expanded form.
Compare two three-digit numbers based on meanings of the hundreds, tens, and ones digits, using >, =, and < symbols to record the results of comparisons.
