What educators are saying

I enjoyed the PPT because very little had to be modified by the teacher. Easy to use for independent work.
This was a great Reading activity to celebrate Pi Day. The text was easy for students to read, and the questions encouraged them to refer back to the text.

Description

Would you like to introduce your students to the history and celebrations surrounding Pi Day (March 14th)? This resource might be perfect for you!

Students respond to reading by:

  • Answering comprehension questions
  • Determining the topic and purpose
  • Summarizing the text
  • Determining the main idea and supporting details
  • Asking questions after reading

This resource includes:

  • Digital and Print Versions
  • Link to two versions of the resource in Google Drive (full-size or widescreen)
  • Black and white versions of all pages
  • Suggested answers to response slides

Text 1: Pi Day History (When the first Pi Day was celebrated and when it became a national holiday)

  • Response slide 1: Comprehension questions
  • Response slide 2: Topic, Purpose, and Summary

Text 2: Pi Day Celebrations (Different ways people celebrate Pi Day)

  • Response slide 1: Topic, Main Idea, and Supporting Details
  • Response slide 2: Questions and Thoughts After Reading

Pi Day Read and Respond can be used in four ways:

1. Assign student slides using Google Classroom. Students read text digitally and respond by typing answers on the response slides. You will not need to print any paper with this method!

2. Assign the pages in Easel by TPT for students to complete digitally. It's already set up for you- Just open "Easel Activity" and send the link to your students.

2. Print and copy the response pages (in PDF) for each student. Display a reading passage ("Pi Day History" or "Pi Celebrations") on the projector screen and read the passage together, completing the response on paper.

3. Print passages and response pages for students from the PDF resource. The pages are provided in color and B&W.

Please check the preview to see examples of the slides!

Thank you!
