· UNIT OVERVIEW
Team Sports --- Team Handball
Team Handball is a team sport that may be used meet our learning targets around sport education and experience.  This sport is very inclusive as it combines many skills from other traditional sports in a format that provides a lot of experience for success.  When played at a high level, team handball is a great for fitness development as well.


· LONG-TERM LEARNING TARGETS

2.1  I can apply movement skills necessary to participate in a variety of team sports.
2.2  I can assess my own movement skills and make appropriate changes.
2.3  I can demonstrate respect for the physical abilities and performance achievements of self and others.
2.4  I can implement strategies for competitive and non-competitive games.
2.5  I can apply rules, procedures, and etiquette to ensure safety and fair play in a physical activity setting.
2.6  I can contribute to the success of teammates.

2.7  I can demonstrate elements of advanced movement skills within a team sport.
2.8  I can assess skill development in others and provide feedback.

· INSTRUCTIONAL CONSIDERATIONS
Student Background Knowledge
Students enter HS with varied PE experiences for specific sports and units.  All students have a had a chance to learn sport specific skills, strategies, and movement concepts with little time to develop these learning targets at mastery level in the Physical Education setting.  Rarely does a student’s experience include Team Handball.

· How can my experiences in other sports transfer to success in Team Handball?
· Why has team handball become popular in other countries, but not the US?
