Description

This learning guide is intended to be used for beginners or homeschoolers using a phone camera along with 2 inexpensive things to buy, a simple external flash with remote that links to the phone and a simple macro lens that attaches to the phone. This is intended for students either as a beginner course or for those who don’t wish to go into photography but just need an elective. It is also for parents who don’t have the money or access to a class that provides cameras and software.
With new technology using cell phones and the increasing quality of cell phone cameras I am happy there is now a middle ground for this use while still being able to learn about photography. If it causes the student to find they like photography, then they can further pursue this, knowing after this course, that they do indeed enjoy it. If not, then the parents are not out a lot of cash and the student is now equipped to have more fun with their cell phone camera and will also take better photos for fun. This is not a course in DSLR cameras, professional digital cameras. Those books have been written and are numerous. This is not a textbook for a state accredited and endorsed institution adhering to common core federal standards. Those textbooks already exist. This book is written for the homeschooler, on a budget to cover an elective using little money and still getting an education in the basics of photography and skills in shooting using the ever-expanding technology of a phone camera. And just a small amount of search on the internet will provide you with more technology than you can imagine to outfit your phone with near professional capabilities. This is a new emerging field of photography. There are many books about DSLR already.
This does NOT cover aperture formulas, and settings for a traditional camera nor does it cover printing or developing nor does it cover taking raw files and transferring them to standard file types as is necessary for those who own professional digital cameras. Those books already exist. It does not cover using Photoshop. It does not cover lenses, except the one macro lens you will get for your cell phone.
As such, this is intended to be a simple course to cover the basics of photography. It is divided into 2 parts, book work, worksheets and reading on the basics of photography and the second part, the types of photography with assignments to go out and shoot those types of photos and create a portfolio of each, the lab portion so to speak. Includes worksheets, test, evaluation sheets, Final exam.
