Description
Phonological/Phonemic Awareness provides a strong foundation for early reading success. As students become more proficient in hearing, identifying and manipulating sounds (phonemes), they can move onto segmenting and blending words. A systematic and cohesive approach to teaching phonological awareness can build confident readers who are less likely to struggle with decoding and spelling skills. Students with a strong phonemic awareness are much more likely to be successful readers.

Each 45-day unit is composed of 4 parts: lessons, independent practice, mid-assessment, and post-assessment. Each unit builds on previous units, slowly increasing in difficulty.
Part 1: Lessons
Each lesson is broken up into 2 easy-to-follow parts.
Introduction- The introduction explains or reviews the phonological skill of the day.
Prompts- A list of prompts are given for each activity. Multiple prompts are given to provide many opportunities for practice.
Part 2: Independent Practice
The independent practice section lists activities that pair well with each type of lesson. This section also includes scaffold and extension ideas to meet the needs of students at all levels. Use these for centers, morning work, homework, or early finisher activities.
Part 3: Mid-Assessments
The unit mid-assessment gives an opportunity to assess student learning. Use this assessment to guide your teaching throughout the remainder of the unit.
Part 4: Post Assessments
The unit post-assessment gives an opportunity to measure what your students have learned.
