21 print or digital pages investigating pets: bird, cat, dog, duck, ferret, fish, frog, gecko, gerbil, guinea pig, hamster, horse, lizard, pig, praying mantis, rabbit, rat, scorpion, snake, tarantula, and turtle. Students visit websites to learn more about:

  • the food that the pet eats (plant or meat);
  • whether it has hair, scales, feathers, or a hard exoskeleton;
  • where it lives (in a bowl, cage, or back yard);
  • the dangers it faces and how it protects itself;
  • where it came from in the wild;
  • its life-cycle, characteristics at birth, and how long it lives;
  • how it helps or harms other life on the planet;
  • why we choose to keep this animal as a pet.
