Description

Introducing or reviewing personification with your students? This two-sided worksheet will be helpful in concept introduction, as well as in enhancing student understanding.

On side one, students use a scaffolded format to fill in the basics of personification and why it's a commonly used form of figurative language. Students review examples, and use two examples to practice explaining how personification is used.

On side two, students read a free-verse poem containing a clear example of personification. Students identify and explain the personification within the poem, and then discuss why the poet chose to use personification. As a final activity, students are given a related prompt and asked to come up with their own examples of personification.
