Description

Personal Narratives are my favorite essays to teach, and I love reading my students stories! I was struggling with a way for students to make sure that they had every element and standard covered in their personal narrative essays and finally figured out a hands-on way to do this!

It has worked like a dream for my students and their final essays are so much better! I have included a link to a slideshow that will walk students through the color coding system and gives examples of each item they are color coding.

I have done this in one of two ways:

1. Have students use markers, colored pencils, or crayons to color code their rough drafts on notebook paper.

2. Students can digitally color code their narratives through google docs and change the font color.

You can choose to do this as whole group projecting the slideshow on the board, individually through assigning with Google Classroom or email, or have students switch papers/computers and color code someone else's essay.

I hope you find this resource useful! I would love your feedback if you this works well for your students!
