What educators are saying

I love this resource. It allowed for my ELL students to participate in a research project on their own and they really enjoyed having that type of independence.
I love this product! It is the perfect tool to use with PebbleGo and 2nd grade students to teach researching. Students loved this also. Very scaffolded and clear for students.

    Description

Differentiate class research this January! Your students will learn all about winter with this bundle of activities for use with PebbleGo.com. With several different reading and language levels represented, this is a fantastic way to differentiate winter research in your classroom -- and a great activity to help kids re-focus after winter break!

This resource includes 26 student pages -- 5+ pages for each article:

    • Animals in Winter
    • Plants in Winter
    • People in Winter
    • Winter Weather
    • Snowflakes

    Cloze (Fill-in-the-blank) Notes:

While reading, students notice important information by filling in the blanks to complete each section.

    Reading Comprehension / Review Questions:

After reading, students check their understanding of the article, answering comprehension questions for each of the sections.

    Reader's Response:

Students write and draw three interesting facts about each article.

What makes Sweet Scaffolds THE best PebbleGo companion?

    • Username and password boxes: Cut out confusion! Add your school's info directly onto your copies, or have students write it in before getting started on the computer.
    • Clear navigation directions show how to access this chapter on PebbleGo.com
    • Visual support for each heading
    • Clean, easy-to-read fonts for beginning readers
    • Lines to write on (a simple feature, but a must for beginning writers!)
    • Differentiated or scaffolded tasks for the real-life classroom

Why I recommend PebbleGo (beyond the primary classroom!)

PebbleGo is an awesome resource I have used for years to teach science and social studies content to beginning and intermediate English Learners at all grade levels. It includes visual support (photos, diagrams, maps, and more), defined key terms, and an optional read-aloud feature that highlights the words as it reads. It makes grade-level content accessible -- without looking "baby-ish" -- for beginning readers of all ages.

PebbleGo is an especially excellent resource for the ESL classroom, helping beginning and intermediate English Learners of all ages understand, read, and write about science and social studies topics in English.

*Pebblego.com requires a subscription* (usually purchased at school level), but does have a free preview trial -- visit their website to learn more. :)
