Description
Teaching kindergarten and first grade about 9/11 can be a tricky task to navigate. This bundle includes all that you need for explaining the events of September 11, 2001 in a sensitive way. This is perfect for Patriot Day with lower elementary!

- Patriotic Day Lesson for Kindergarten - First Grade Use this Google Slides presentation and a differentiated writing activity to teach about the events of 9/11 in an age appropriate manner. This discusses the tragedy while showing pictures of the World Trade Center pre-9/11 to explain why we celebrate Patriot Day and the heroes serving the United States. Students will learn what a patriot is and be given the opportunity to write a letter thanking a patriot.
- Flagpole STEAM Challenge This STEAM challenge is perfect to get your kiddos' hands moving and brains thinking! It comes with a Google Slides presentation explaining the American flag, a worksheet for students to record data following the engineering design process, and various certificates for students. The challenge is to build a flag pole using popsicles sticks and Play-Doh.
- Kindergarten Math Task Cards These task cards hit the counting and cardinality standards within the Kindergarten Common Core. There are 20 total task cards with a patriotic theme.
- First Grade Math Task Cards These task cards hit the addition and subtraction standards within the First Grade Common Core. There are 20 total task cards with a patriotic theme.
- 9/11 Headband Craft This craft comes in both black & white and color. Simply print and go! Cut the pieces out and measure the student's head using the adjustable head strap. Connect with tape, glue, or staples for students to wear proudly on Patriot Day!
