What educators are saying

Great to work on! My class loved all the facts thrown in. The questions to ponder were great for discussions.

Description

If you like this activity, you may want to check out my Fossil Diorama activity. It would be the perfect supplement!

Here is a link ( https://youtu.be/bfTnOAEkakY ) to my YouTube video where I describe each page in the activity.

Are you teaching your students about fossils? If so, this activity packet is for you!

Activities include...

1. What do you know about fossils? Students will write 3 facts they already know about fossils.

2. What are fossils? Students will learn the definition of a fossil. Students will also look at/color illustrations of fossils.

3. What information can we learn from studying fossils? Students will learn the importance of studying fossils. Students will also have questions to ponder to deepen their understanding of why studying fossils is important. (The answer to the last question on this page is located at the bottom of the Credits page.)

4. Types of fossils. Students will learn about four types of fossils: imprints, molds, casts, and preserved parts. Each fossil page has an activity to help deepen the students' understanding of how that fossil is formed.

5. The Fossil Song. The Fossil Song is one of my students' favorite songs to sing. They really get into the beat and the lyrics. This song reviews the four types of fossils (imprints, molds, casts, preserved parts). This song goes to the original tune of: Na, Na, Na, Na, Hey, Hey, Hey Goodbye. The artist of the original song is Steam.

If you use interactive notebooks, simply have your students cut along the dotted lines on each page.

Much of this packet is in black and white. This is to save your printer from using a lot of color, and it lets the students add their own style by coloring it themselves.

Enjoy!
