PROFESSIONAL LEARNING RESOURCE! Close Reading and Response Strategies
- PDF
Description
Close Reading is a proven instructional strategy to increase student engagement and comprehension of complex text, and improve written and oral responses. However many educators do not know how to teach close reading to their students, or implement it effectively in their own classrooms. Close Reading takes time. Close Reading takes several mini lessons for students to learn each part of the close reading process correctly BEFORE they can complete Close Reading effectively, and definitely before they can complete close reading independently. This professional learning resource is intended for teachers to learn the Close Reading process step by step, including a printable go-to Teacher's Guide, as well as effective response strategies to incorporate within the process.
I have created this professional learning presentation specifically with the classroom teacher in mind. It can be used for whole staff learning, within a professional learning community, or individually. Everything contained in this presentation are research-based instructional practices and based on the theories of learning for the purpose of helping to improve educators' instructional practice and increase their students' success for standards mastery and performance on state assessments.
