What educators are saying

My students love using this resource at the end of the day while listening to a story. They were all engaged and we’re still able to tell me what in the story.
I used this toward the end of our year, and it was exciting to see the students feel so successful with this activity. So many of them were apprehensive about it, but they were engaged and so proud which is the best feeling.

Description

ABOUT FACE! Having trouble teaching correct proportions for portraits? Let me help. This is not your typical set of printables. You are getting a 14 page pdf resource of valuable information to guide learners in the successful completion of a portrait. My detailed drawing guide has everything you need in one place, to draw a front view portrait. This carefully created resource can be a starting point and kept simple OR developed even further with shading. We have done portraits in watercolor, crayon, and cut paper using these skills.

This pack includes correct head shapes with and without guidelines and details for drawing eyes, nose, and lips. Many hair styles with heads to practice on are also provided. Step by step practice areas with visuals and text, guide learners from lines to shapes. Diverse styles are included with an extra page for eyebrows, ears, eyelashes and more! My favorite grade to start portrait drawing with is 4th and above, but there is plenty here for any age to enjoy in their own way.

This guide was created to partner with your own lesson involving portraits or self-portraits. This is NOT a lesson plan with a final product because I encourage you always to take my foundation and run with it. Students use these guides AFTER I teach and demo each part. There are many tips included with sample portraits and detailed guidelines for you to use in your instruction. I always begin our portrait unit with a pre-instruction drawing so learners can compare their "before" and "after." It's always an amazing transformation! Can't wait to see yours!
