What educators are saying

This resource is excellent! My students remain actively engaged throughout the activity, finding it straightforward to follow and comprehend.
I love using these cards as a part of my read it, build it, write it center. The segmenting helps my kids blend the words so much better!

Description

Blending and segmenting are vital skills in learning to read and write. This phoneme blending and segmentation resource will enhance students' phonemic awareness, phoneme-grapheme correspondence, together with decoding and encoding skills.

This Science of Reading aligned phonics bundle promotes orthographic mapping as students connect phonemes (sounds) to graphemes (printed symbols: letter / letter combinations). This process (which happens in the brain) will strengthen students' reading skills and automaticity.

The list of words follow a specific scope and sequence (as listed below). This will ensure that students are not guessing the words since they are only presented with spelling patterns they are already familiar with, in a sequential order. This means that you will not find words such as sheep in the digraphs sets but this word will be in the long vowels set).

Included are over 890 blending and segmenting cards to be used for word work, independent work, small groups, literacy centers, and more.

⭐Two versions are included for each card: blending (x895) and segmenting (x896). A bw version of each card is also available so you could print on colored paper and save on ink.

HOW STUDENTS SHALL USE THE BLENDING CARDS:

  1. Touch each dot as you say each phoneme (represented by the corresponding grapheme)
  2. Blend the sounds together and say the whole word
  3. Look at the picture to self-check

Please note: The pictures could be cut apart to make a matching game.

HOW STUDENTS SHALL USE THE SEGMENTING CARDS:

  1. Name the picture
  2. Isolate and say each sound in the word as you tap each dot
