Students need many opportunities to practice decoding words as they are learning to read. Using word cards where the specific phonogram or phonics rule is highlighted helps students quickly identify the applicable phonogram or rule being taught, providing immediate and isolated practice in that reading skill.
This product is part of a series of over 4,500 Orton-Gillingham Word Cards developed by The Multisensory Classroom. There are 457 words included.
This word pack includes the following types of syllable division words:
- VCC/CV (Ex: pump/kin)
- VC/CCV (Ex: os/trich)
- V/CCV (Ex: a/pron)
- VCC/V (Ex: rock/et)
- VC/CV (Ex: rab/bit)
- V/CV (Ex: ti/ger)
- VC/V (Ex: cam/el)
- VV (Ex: li/on)
- Compound Words (Ex: cup/cake)
- Consonant-le (Ex: fum/ble)
- Multisyllable Words: a set 2-syllable and a set of 3- syllable words with accents and schwa
Each of the above comes in the following:
Set 1: Real Words: Applicable phonogram/rule is highlighted in RED
Set 2: Real Words: Applicable phonogram/rule is underlined in BLACK (no color)
Set 3: Nonsense Words: Applicable phonogram/rule is highlighted in RED
Set 4: Nonsense Words: Applicable phonogram/rule is underlined in BLACK (no color)
Note: The vowels in most sets are underlined/red since the vowels are what determines where the syllables will be divided; in the Cle set, the Cle is underlined/ red; the compound words set does not have red or underlines.
EACH set listed above can be printed DOUBLE-SIDED so that the whole word is on the front and the divided word is on the back.
Each set also includes an introductory word card with a list of all words in the set to help keep cards organized. This word card list and each individual word card includes the number of the sub-step in The Multisensory Classroom Scope and Sequence (sold separately) where the phonograms are introduced.
