Description
Looking for an engaging oral storytelling unit to foster a sense of community in the classroom? This language arts unit will provide will provide everything you need to teach 7+ lessons to your students including:
- A drama activity
- An Oral Storytelling pre-assessment
- Artifact activity to represent a personal story or memory
- Multiple activities to practice story retelling (based on picture books)
- Small group storytelling practice
- Two assessments for students to self-assess their storytelling skills (with a few sentence stems to help guide them)
- 7 detailed lessons (which may take your class longer)
This unit is great end-of-year or beginning of the year unit. It could also be combined with a Social Studies topic of choice to build background knowledge. It fosters reading comprehension as students have multiple opportunities to make meaning of texts.
This unit is based on British Columbia Curriculum and appropriate for grades 3+.
