Description

This resource on Opinion Writing was designed to teach students about the genre of opinion writing, and to walk them through the process of writing their first opinion essay. Digital pages are available for the student pages only. These can be used with Google Slides.

This unit is broken down into 13 lessons and should be used over the course of 3 to 4 weeks:

Lesson 1: What is Opinion Writing?

Lesson 2: Opinion Writing Topics

Lesson 3: Selecting a Topic

Lesson 4: Brainstorm & Organize

Lesson 5: Introduction Paragraph: Write a Lead

Lesson 6: Introduction Paragraph: State Your Opinion

Lesson 7: Introduction Paragraph: Rough Draft

Lesson 8: Body Paragraphs: Topic Sentences

Lesson 9: Body Paragraphs: Rough Draft

Lesson 10: Conclusion Paragraph

Lesson 11: Revision Checklist

Lesson 12: Editing

Lesson 13: Final Draft

The lesson pages can be assigned individually from day-to-day, or they can be bound into a book, or stapled into a packet, for use throughout the unit.
