Ontario Science: Grade 5 Human Body Systems
- Google Drive™ folder
Description
Are you a regular classroom teacher looking for a simplified version of curriculum resources? Do you scribe for all of your STEP 1 ELLs in content area classes but don't feel you have enough time? Do you wish you had the visuals you need to explain science concepts?
This resource is a companion document that supports the language of the expectations of the Grade 5 Ontario Curriculum. For the Science strand: Understanding Life Systems, I’ve created reference pages for the expectations for Human Body Systems.
It is intended to provide STEP 1 students with key vocabulary and sentence structures they need to communicate their ideas in speaking and writing activities.
STEP 1 English Language Learners will:
- Demonstrate understanding by responding to a highly visual text, using a combination of visuals, drawings, L1, pre-taught vocabulary and non-verbal cues
- Locate information in a visual text, using visual cues
- Read and understand high frequency words and pre-taught vocabulary in context
- Apply sound-symbol connections to decode unfamiliar words in context
Overall Expectation
By the end of Grade 5, students will:
- demonstrate an understanding of the structure and function of human body systems and interactions within and between systems.
