"Olga the Brolga" - she is such a laugh! This is a wonderfully engaging Aussie picture book featuring Olga, who just loves to dance and tries to con the other animals into dancing with her. It is a joyful, upbeat rhyming words picture book perfect for shared reading sessions.

This resource is based on the picture book, "Brolga the Olga" by Rod Clements and includes a range of fun, creative and, of course, educational learning tasks.

A copy of the picture book would maximise the learning from this resource.

Rhyming words cards

• Based on rhyming and near-rhyming words from the story.
• Options are included for whole class, small group, partner or individual use.
• Ideas are shared for using the cards to enhance interaction, with a couple of game ideas outlined.
• Brainstorming Olga’s character traits (2 to a page).
• Teaching dialogue and manners – Olga asks politely (2 to a page)
• Creating a newspaper report based on the events in the story (sensationalising them for older students, with the byline, “Scandal”). There are several different versions of this so teachers can choose the most suitable template for their students.
• Bonus groovy bookmarks to celebrate and encourage reading!
