Description

This hands-on lesson leads students to move around the room in stations, comparing food labels on items (ex: Cheerios vs. Captain Crunch) of your choice. Students get to compare: calories, sugar, sodium and make an education decision of which food item in that category is the best choice. Students must justify their decision (ex: Option A because it has less sugar and sugar can lead to health issues.

This lesson includes:

*Slideshow lesson including: "do now", learning target, questions, modeled examples, link to short video to reach all learners, homework extension

*Google Doc stations activity that can be easily edited to add or remove categories (ex: remove sodium, add carbohydrates)

If you do not have the resources to bring in food items, you can also print out photos of the nutrition labels and tape them around the room for stations. OR go fully digital by posting the nutrition labels above each food organizer in the station activity!
