Description

Students investigate the nutrition and ingredients of a favorite food of theirs.

Students bring in a wrapper or container of a favorite food or drink item and analyze the nutrition label and the ingredients list. Teachers can also provide students with print outs of food labels (easily found online). Encourage students to bring in "junk food". The more unhealthy and the more mysterious, unpronounceable ingredient, the more they will get out of it!

Students reflect upon and write about how healthy their item is, how reasonable the suggested serving size is, research the ingredients, think about what is natural vs artificial and identify what ingredients are derived from corn (list provided).

Have your students find out what's in their Taquis!
