Description

Welcome to Dollar Store Math! Using dollar store items to help your students master math concepts and practice important skill.

Students will use these counting mats and centers to practice the following skills

  • Reading Numerals 1-20
  • Counting 1 to 20 objects
  • Using one to one correspondence to match objects to spots on the counting mat

Included in this Packet are:

  • Differentiated counting mats for two levels of learning
  • Full color game mat with number 1-20 cards. Students flip over a card and count out that many gumballs.
  • Number Formation Cards to teach proper number formation for 1-20
  • Ten and Twenty Frames for Students to Represent Numbers 1-20
  • Reproducible page for tracing numbers 1-20
  • Bubble Gum Dab Page- for students to use bingo dabbers to count out and stamp gumballs on a bubblegum machine

You can use anything to represent your gumballs but in the spirit of Dollar Store Math, I like to use the large colorful beads from dollar store hair elastics! :)

Standards

to see state-specific standards (only available in the US).
Write numbers from 0 to 20. Represent a number of objects with a written numeral 0-20 (with 0 representing a count of no objects).
Understand the relationship between numbers and quantities; connect counting to cardinality.
When counting objects, say the number names in the standard order, pairing each object with one and only one number name and each number name with one and only one object.
Understand that the last number name said tells the number of objects counted. The number of objects is the same regardless of their arrangement or the order in which they were counted.
