Teach the words 'before' and 'after' for success with this activity.
Young learners need multiple opportunities to work with numbers in a variety of ways. This resource requires students to count, identify numbers, write and think about numbers. In the beginning of this resource, kids will be asked to identify a number on the number line. then, students are asked questions such as what comes before that number and what comes after that number. Kids will need to write answers in a box. Please teach number writing early. You want to give kids as much chance at success as possible. Later, kids must count the number of dots and write their answer. Thus, there are a few pages for number writing practice at the end of the file.
Next there are activities for students to color, cut and glue bees in a bowl. They need to be able to recognize numbers from 1-10 for success. Use morning center time to review and count with all children. Ask them questions using a number line what number comes before and after a targeted number. Do this frequently. You will be amazed how each child will be able to think like a mathematician rather quickly. Always ask them questions about numbers. Encourage math in all students.
Students will have several opportunities with a number line. They will be working with numbers and objects. Counting is one aspect of math. Encourage each child to think about numbers and how numbers relate to other numbers such as what comes before number 5 and what comes after number 5.
Remember to have kids talk with kids about their math discoveries. It is important for children to talk with peers about their learning discoveries! Have fun with math. Soon there will be a TPT Easel activity for this resource.
Sincerely,
