Novel Packet by Elizabeth Dodd
This packet is meant for students to complete while they read a fiction novel. Included in this download is a scoring guide.
Students are asked to:
1. Identify the genre and give evidence from the text.
2. Identify the author’s point of view and give three examples from the text.
3. Define and illustrate six vocabulary words as well as give their part of speech.
4. Compare/Contrast two characters from the story by identifying shared characteristics as well as differing characteristics. Students are also asked to illustrate their characters showing physical traits.
5. Ask and answer five questions throughout the text.
6.Make two text-self connections, two text-word connections, and two text-text connections
7. Stop and visualize at three different times. They are to draw a picture and provide a two sentence description of their visualization.
8. Make predictions at three different times throughout the story and then say what really happened.
9. Locate three sections of the text that would be great read aloud and describe why they like that scene.
