Description
Students will be able to learn about the habits and habitats of the Desert Tortoise, which has been on the Federal Endangered Species list as 'threatened,' for more than a decade.
"Buddy Comes to Breakfast" is a beautifully illustrated non-fiction narrative about an adopted Desert Tortoise (Gopherus Agassizii), who lives in a back yard in Nevada. The author's photographs, watercolor illustrations, and observations ensure that it is engaging and educational reading for all ages. Each of the 25 illustrated pages contains a single line of a primer level poem about friendship that can be memorized by pre-emergent readers and used as a mnemonic device for recalling the information on the page, while learning the social skill of what it is to be a friend.
The text is written at a 6th to 7th GLE and includes a list of internet resources for more information as well as a glossary of terms.
