Description

This newsletter has teaching ideas for the Voting Rights Act of 1965.
It contains two first day covers - envelopes with commemorative stamps, appropriate postmark and artwork, as well as links to the two speeches by President LBJ. The first in March 1965 calling on Congress to pass the Voting Rights legislation, and the second on the day he signed the bill into law. Both speeches highlight his vision for America and goals for his administration, such as HeadStart, and the War on Poverty. The newsletter's left column contains information about the most recent stamp release celebrating the 200th anniversary of the Battle of New Orleans. Links are not live but can be copied and pasted into browser.
