What educators are saying

These Netflix episodes are super engaging but they are so fast. These questions help students focus their watching.

    Description

This bundle contains three talks from Netflix: Explained. Below are links to the individual pages for each worksheet and a description.

    Why Women Are Paid Less

This 18 minute episode of Explained looks at the pay gap between men at women. It discusses the motherhood penalty, gender norms, and looks at the changing pay wages over the year. It also discusses how the pay gap is impacted by women's role of mother. This talk takes a look at two country, Rwanda and Iceland, and how events in their country have led to shrinking the pay gap.

The lesson would be great in a Women's Study, Sociology's Gender Unit, or inequality in society lesson. My worksheet contains 18 questions and an answer key has been provided for your convenience. I would set aside 30 minutes for this activity. The talk is 18 minutes, but you want to also allow yourself time for students to answer the last question and to have time to discuss the episode.

    Racial Wealth Gap

This 16-minute episode, Racial Wealth Gap, looks at how slavery and inequality in our society has led to housing discrimination. It also looks at how this housing discrimination has then continued to impact African Americans and their economic success.

I am using this in my Civics course when I discuss inequality in society. This could also be used in an African American History course. You could also use it in a government course when examining various practices used in our history. My worksheet contains 16 questions and an answer key has been provided for your convenience.

    The World's Water Crisis

The World's Water Crisis focuses on how water is one of our most valuable resources, but it is not necessarily treated as one. This mini-documentary examines how different places in the world are dealing with the water crisis. They look at the efforts in Cape Town, South Africa to push back their Day Zero indefinitely. It also looks at treating water as more of a human rights issue. This talk would be beneficial when discussing the water crisis, geography, current events, global warming, or human rights.

My worksheet contains 25 questions and an answer key has been provided for your convenience. The talk is almost 19 minutes in length but I would allow a minimum of 30 minutes for this lesson. There are three reflection questions after the film and you would want to allow time to debrief the talk.

DISTANCE LEARNING- These worksheets could also work for Distance Learning lessons. Students would just need access to Netflix or YouTube to complete the assignment. Netflix recently added the Explained episodes to their educational page on YouTube.

By purchasing this bundle, you agree to use it for your individual use only and will not post online, share with others, or claim as your own. Additional licenses are available for a reduced price.
