Description

This packet is a combination of activities that can be used to reinforce and connect students to their communities.

It can be used as part of a Unit Plan if you study neighborhoods and communities or it can be used as an ongoing center. I've used it both ways. When I taught 2nd grade I incorporated it into our lessons, and in 3rd grade I use it as an ongoing center.

When used as a center, I put each activity in a sheet protector and all activities go in a binder, using the cover page as the binder cover. Each time the students visit the center with their group, they each take an activity, one at a time, starting from the first activity to the last. Since they work at different paces this allows the students to move on to the next activity when they are ready. These activities are intended to be fun, engaging and educational.

This center includes the following activity sheets:
*Special places poem
*Writing a letter to a community worker
*Using and creating a map
*Community/Neighborhood vocabulary foldable
*Community places frames
*Cammie the chameleon (I created Cammie, she's a blank template in which the students decorate and label to resemble themselves. My kids LOVE her and it makes for a very cute classroom display!
