Description

Look no further for authentic Native American reading passages from the Native American perspective! These five, scaffolded realistic fiction reading passages give a glimpse into modern day Native American life through the lens of different careers common on Indian Reservations. Each passage contains a short, Common Core-aligned assessment.

Leveled, Tiered Reading Passages:

• Each career reading passage comes in two, Lexile-analyzed versions: a lower (660-720) reading passage and higher (840-900) reading passage.

Native American Careers Covered:

• The following careers are covered: Tribal School Teacher, Indian Health Service Nurse, Wildland Firefighter, Rez Mechanic, and Lakota Ledger Artist.

Assessment:

• Assessment Questions are common core aligned. Students will compare and contrast, identify text structure, find evidence, write their opinion, and more. Answer key included.
